Abstract

To be able to explain something means you understand it. The development of new ideas and search for solutions works more fluidly when it is stimulated by the free exchange of views and opinions.

Discussion is a fundamental part of the scientific process, which can include polarising opinions. A devil's advocate can help to find flaws in theories and correct them.
